An acorn and oak leaves curl across the letter O on the Oak Tree 10p. There is no whole tree or landscape here: the design uses a few recognisable shapes to fill the coin. It is a quieter reverse to place alongside the alphabet’s busier scenes.
Why an oak?
Oak is associated with strength and endurance, a connection noted in Westminster’s guide to the A–Z designs. The coin brings that large, long-lived tree down to its smallest starting point: an acorn.
The Royal Mint’s Oak Tree notes also mention the use of oak barrels for Scotch whisky. It is a subject with links to woodland, village greens and traditional craft, giving O an appeal beyond its alphabet position.

O was issued for circulation with mintages of 220,000 in 2018 and 84,000 in 2019. The leaf-and-acorn reverse is shared by both dates.
