The idea behind N
The NHS opened in 1948. Its founding principles included care based on clinical need rather than ability to pay, as the Royal Mint’s account of the design explains. The heart-shaped stethoscope gives that subject a direct, recognisable image.
The first alphabet issue followed in 2018, 70 years after the NHS began. That date may be particularly appealing if you collect NHS-related coins, although N is part of the wider A–Z series.

Circulation mintages are 220,000 for the 2018 N and 84,000 for 2019. Both have the stethoscope reverse, with the date on the portrait side.
Choose 2018 for the anniversary-year connection, 2019 for that dated alphabet, or both for a pair.
