2019 Samuel Pepys £2 Brilliant Uncirculated Coin
2019 marks 350 years since Samuel Pepys’ last diary entry on the 31st May 1669. Samuel Pepys was one of the most famous diarists in history. His diaries provide approximately 1 million words worth of valuable first-hand accounts of life in 17th Century London.
It also provides historic eye-witness accounts of landmark events in British History, such as the Great Plague of London and the Great Fire of London. He kept his diary from 1660-1669, only stopping due to his failing eyesight.
Designed by Gary Breeze, the reverse of the £2 features a hand using a feathered quill above a diary entry, with the words Samuel Pepys. The obverse features the fifth portrait of Her Majesty the Queen, designed by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark.
